"Service"
10 x 12 inches
24 karat gold leaf, pewter leaf, monotype print, oil pastel, graphite
The poem “Service” is by Kate Bennion, and I made an artwork to accompany it. “Knowing this story we always go, now”.
A sarcophagus-like shape hovers in the middle. It outweighs the other parts in size and darkness and is outlined in white. The silver pewter rectangle is an obscured mirror, as in “seeing through a glass darkly”. The gold leaf on the bottom is a flash, present and underscoring.
All proceeds from this purchase will be donated to The Sameer Project, an aid initiative for Gaza led by Palestinians.
