Printmaking: Autumn 2025 Blue Series
I created these nine works as a closed series with titles and themes chosen ahead of time. They are monotype prints embellished with oil pastel, graphite, & gold powder.
I finished pulling these prints and applying the gold one hour before I got the phone call that my dad had passed. When I got back to my studio weeks later, I took time to finish each one with oil pastel and graphite. So for everyone asking if this is about my dad’s funeral, of course it isn’t and of course it is. I intended for you to view these works and bring your own experiences to them. We’ve all experienced (too) much.
In spite of it all… How can I keep from singing?Click any image for detailed photos and pricing“How Can I Keep From Singing?”, 19 x 26 inches. Monotype print & oil pastel on paper. Inspired by the spirit and hope of the American folk hymn: “My life goes on in endless song Above earth’s lamentations, I hear the real, though far-off hymn That hails a new creation. Through all the tumult and the strife I hear it’s music ringing, It sounds an echo in my soul. How can I keep from singing? No storm can shake my inmost calm. When tyrants tremble in their fear And hear their death knell ringing, When friends rejoice both far and near How can I keep from singing? In prison cell and dungeon vile Our thoughts to them are winging, When friends by shame are undefiled How can I keep from singing?”

"Thin Place (Funeral)", 19 x 26 inches, Monotype print, oil pastel, acrylic, & graphite on paper. An extension on the theme of Celtic “thin places”, where the veil between realms is thin, combined with the memory of a large funeral gathering.

"Simple Gifts (Waterfall)", 19 × 26 inches. Monotype print, gold dust, oil pastel, & graphite on paper. Inspired by nature and the Shaker hymn: ‘Tis the gift to be simple, ‘tis the gift to be free ‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be, And when we find ourselves in the place just right, ‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight. When true simplicity is gained, To bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed, To turn, turn will be our delight, Till by turning, turning we come ‘round right.”

"Memory Door", 26 × 19 inches. Monotype print, Gold dust, oil pastel, & graphite on paper. A piece about getting swept deep away in memories, like when looking at photos, or smelling a familiar scent. This is meant to loosely resemble the doorway of an ancient stone temple.
